Justice Run, Deserts Edge, RNR, Hoofin it, and Monster Mile

Image
After qualifying for NYC marathon, I decided to focus on short distance running and Deserts Edge Olympic triathlon. I really wanted to PR in the 5k. I needed a sub 20:40. I ran Justice Run 5k and finished 2nd in 20:58 behind a 12 year old. I then started training for Deserts Edge Olympic spending hours at Aurora Reservoir, learning to open water swim. I was scared to death of an Olympic. It was in Fruita so the family camped with me for 2 nights. I finished with a 3rd AG. I got a huge discount into RNR Denver 5k so I ran it 1st overall in 21:06 on Oct 18th. Then, on Oct 24th, I finally got my 5k PR 20:34 at Hoofin it through the Hollows 5k. I ran Monster Mile in 6:03 on November 2nd, which I loved. Racing a mile feels like flying! Time for a 3 month break!

Qualifying for NYC marathon

I had plans to qualify for NYC at Revels Rockies half marathon on July 19th. I endured some tough training and showed up to Bandimere Speedway to get on a bus to the start line. I stood there with thousands of people. The buses never showed up and I was depressed for about a week. Prairie dog ½ and GTIS both gave me discounts to enter their races so I decided to run both of them. I needed a 1:34. I got news that I was accepted into Girls on the Run of the Rockies race team on July 7th. I started training rigorously. Prairie dog was a super hilly course and I finished in 1:37:48 and got 3rd overall on July 25th. GTIS was on August 8th and was a great downhill course but I came just shy of my goal time in 1:34:53. I did Evergreen triathlon on July 26th and swam in the coldest water. 59 degrees! I could not feel my feet on the entire bike ride, which really slowed me down. I finally felt better on the run around evergreen lake. I finished in 1:42:23. Girls on the Run promoted Back to Bron...

After Boston: Columbine Classic, Colfax, Lookout Mountain

I took a week off of running after Boston. I have found that I almost always get injured if I don't rest for a week. In order to keep my sanity, I started swimming and biking. After a few weeks, I decided to register for Columbine Classic 8 mile on May 3rd. It is an awesome race that goes all the way around Aurora reservoir. It is pretty fast and flat but windy. I started the race feeling pretty good. My goal was a sub 1 hour so I stuck to a 7:20-7:30 pace. A girl came flying past me in the first mile and I eventually lost sight of her. I finished the race in 58:33 for 2nd overall. The first place female was 50 years old! My next race was Colfax 10 mile on May 17th. I kinda got thrown into this race unintentionally. My husband registered for it and then got injured, so I ran it for him. All 3 of my kids were in a kids triathlon that morning so I parked my car at the finish line so I could leave right away to at less see some of my kids race. It was also motivation to run fast. I ...
