2016 Pikes Peak Marathon

Image
This is a hard race to get into. I had to give a qualifying time and sign up right away to get in. This was my big race of the year, besides New York City Marathon. I trained on Pikes Peak a lot in the spring with Lola. It is my favorite place to go and run. Once summer started, I couldn't get up there to train. Things were too busy and I didn't have anyone to watch the kids. I did run the whole peak (up and down) on July 31 st , 3 weeks before the marathon. I still didn't feel ready because I hadn't been running a lot of miles. Lloyd and I stayed up there for the weekend and had a blast. We went shopping and mountain biking. I researched what time I would need to get an award and it was sub 6 hours. The last time I ran the marathon was 2 years ago and I ran it in 6:41. I would have to shave off about 50 minutes to win. I told Lloyd that we had to eat sushi the night before. I have never had a bad race when I eat sushi, the night before. We had some of the best su...

Summer Classic Trail Run and Fitness Fest

Image
The town of Castle Rock hosted an all day Fitness Fest at the new Miller Athletic Complex. It started off with a trail run that Connor and i participated in. Lloyd also helped with the race by riding his bike and assisting runners. I completed the 5k that was pretty hilly and tough. Another guy and I ran together until he sprinted at the end. I finished 1st female in a time of 25:51. Connor did awesome at the 1 mile and is starting PR Youth Running at the end of the month. High five! Another part of the Fitness Fest was soccer. I was asked to bring out my team and scrimmage other teams. Both Camilla and Carly scrimmaged for over an hour and got a chance to score goals. Lloyd, Connor, and I even joined in and played for a while. Carly and Camilla playing a scrimmage: I thought this video was funny. Camilla looks like she just knocked this girl over but the girl actually tripped. https://youtu.be/uV4B8OpUZSY

The kids first 14er- Mount Sherman and Horseshoe Campground

Image
With only 2 weeks of summer vacation left, I decided to fit in a 14er with my kids. They are in really good shape right now and I knew they could do it. I believed it would build their self-esteem to do something that not many kids or adults can do. I showed them a video of people hiking 14ers and they got really excited, and said, "Can we do it now?' So, I did some research and found the easiest 14er in Colorado is Mount Sherman. It is a 2 ½ hour drive from Castle Rock, so I decided that we would camp the night before. This allowed us to wake up super early the next morning and immediately start the hike. Con solamente 2 semanas de vacaciones de verano, decidí hacer a 14,000 pies de caminata con mis hijos. Mis hijos son muy atléticos y sabía que podían hacerlo. Yo creí que podría ayudar a construir su autoestima y hacer algo que no muchos niños pueden hacer. Hice algunas investigaciones y encontré que lo más fácil de hacer en Colorado es el Montaje Sherman. Montaje de Sherma...
