Kidstage Wonka!

I originally wanted to sign Camilla up for theatre because she has so much interest in the arts. She goes to multiple plays with me every year and loves to design costumes and art. When Carly found out that I was going to sign Camilla up for theatre, she wanted to do it too. They were both so excited to do this and even more excited that they get to perform Wonka! Camilla got cast as Bianca Reid and Carly got cast as the Blue Oompa Loompa. Thankfully, Carly learned how to read just before the first practice so she was able to study her lines. They got an amazing instructor who told me that Camilla has the right amount of sass for this character. We also made candy props of lollipops, hard candy, ice cream, and microphones.

Camilla memorized her lines very quickly and was always reading her script in the car. As a reward, I bought her a new pair of high heels. Carly struggled a bit when being asked to learn her lines. She didn't want to study. She, thankfully, had them memorized 1 week before the production. Her reward was blue facepaint.

The production was held on Friday, April 22nd. The kids did not have school on this day so I had fun dolling them all up.

It was so fun to see all of the kids dressed up and all the creative things that their parents came up with for costumes and props.

Camilla came out first with the other 2 reporters and announced that Mr. Wonka was going to be allowing some kids into his factory. She had so much sass and her voice was very loud for everyone to hear.

Carly came out after the kids had already entered the factory. She knew all of her lines and everyone loved her costume.

It was so neat to see how confident my kids were on stage. They also made some great friendships during the rehearsals. They seemed so happy up there.

At the end of the production, the theatre director gave awards. Camilla got the award for her big strong voice and her personality. Carly got the award for the most creativity in her costume.

I am so impressed by this KidStage program and will definitely be enrolling the kids again. They have improved in their reading comprehension, verbal expression, discipline, and self esteem.
