Spelling Bee

Carly came home from school one day and told me that she wanted to compete in the Kindergarten spelling bee. In order to compete, each class has a spell-off to determine the top 2 spellers in the class. She studied every night with me for at least an hour. She ended up winning the spell-off in her class and got to compete in the spelling bee. She was so excited that she was telling random strangers that she is in the spelling bee. On some days, she got really nervous and told me that she was scared to compete against kids that were older than her. At the Spelling Bee, the Kindergarteners compete with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. They all receive the same words, so it isn't entirely fair for the younger kids. But, I explained to Carly that this is excellent practice for her and she will be that much smarter and experienced when she gets older.

Connor also made it into the spelling bee for the 2nd year in a row. He also studied words every night and was always asking us to quiz him on harder words. Our dinners out together consisted of Mom and Dad taking turns making up words for our kids to spell.

Carly's 1st word was dress and she spelled it correctly. Her 2nd word was solo and she spelled that one correct, too. She misspelled the third word, atlas. She spelled it, "Atliss". We are so proud of her for being the only Kindergartener for making it to the 3rd round. Connor won the spelling bee by spelling:

Melt, Splashy, Parade, Mustang, Umpire, Emerald, Lyrics, Dwindled, Origin, Fulfilling, Vicinity, Garlic, Layover, Eyebrow, Polar, Tomorrow, Announcer, Jelly, Vote, Curly, Apart

He was so excited that he forgot where his class was! We are so proud of him!

Legacy Academy is focusing on building character. School-wide the students are asked to R.O.A.R. This means students are asked to be Respectful, On Task, Appropriate and Responsible. Carly received an award for Perseverance. Her teacher did a long speech about her and explained that Carly doesn't give up on things until she gets it exactly right. She is always coming up to her teacher and asking if her work is good or if she needs to correct anything. Earlier in the year, Connor received the Honesty award for telling the truth in difficult situations. Camilla received the Courtesy Award last year for being kind and respectful to others. I love how our school encourages hard work and good character!
