School Jumble by Camilla McFarlin
One sunny morning, there was a knock at the front door. Then, I opened the door in shock. It was my teacher. I said, "What are you doing here?" She said, "I want you to know that I am not your teacher anymore. I am an inventor. So, I am not going to teach anymore." As I held onto my action fighter tightly, she shut the door. At dinner, I told my parents the news. "I hope she enjoys her job as an inventor", Dad said. "No! You don't understand! She isn't going to teach!" I said.
"Let's go talk in the garden", Dad said. As we got outside in the garden, Dad said, "Don't worry. Your new teacher will be great!" The next day at school, there was a loud sound. "I'm the winner and you're not. Boohoo!" Justin said. Justin was the biggest bully in the whole school. He took a lollypop from a little girl in Kindergarten when she cleaned the class. I told the teacher what he said.
The teacher gave Justin one more chance, but next time he would get no recess. Everybody cheered. Justin sank into his chair. "I hope you will enjoy your day", said the teacher. "So, who has any new ideas about what we should do?" said the teacher. Justin raised his hand. "We should knock every girl out of the school!" said Justin. The teacher said, "That is your last chance! No recess!" Everybody laughed. "You don't want to miss recess, do you?" the teacher said to Justin. In less than a second, it was silent.
Everyone was hiding. "Come on! Hide!" Jacob cried. "For what? To surprise the teacher?" said Chloe. I hid under the table with Jacob. "Surprise!" we yelled when the teacher approached. "Welcome Back!" We had a big celebration! That day forward; it was the best day ever.
After the party at school, my parents told me the day is like a goodbye party for you. "A goodbye party?" I said. "Yes, we are moving", said Dad. "We are moving?" I said. "Yup, to New York." Dad said. Five days later, we were packed. When we were on the plane, I said, "Mom, can we visit Colorado someday?" "Absolutely!" Mom said. When we were at our new house, I said, "Mom, can we walk around the city tonight?" "Sure." said Mom. Later, in the city, it was noisy. It hurt my ears. So, I bought some headphones. They were awesome! "I actually like New York!" I said to Mom. Mom was looking at some dresses for only $9. "Well, you know who got us to stay here? Your Uncle Bob!" "Speaking of that, we are going to dinner with him tonight after we unpack." Said Dad. "Really? Yay!" I said. When we were home, I unpacked as fast I could. "Wow! Slow down!" said Mom, as she walked in. "You don't want to break anything!" "But, I am so excited!" I said. "We can unpack tomorrow." Mom said, grinning.
At dinner with Uncle Bob, the place had the best food that I ever touched my tongue on. "Is this place always so good?" I said. "Not always", Bob whispered in my ear. "One time, the salad was rotten!" "Ewe!" I said. "Shhh! " Mom said. "They will close the shop because they do not like people dislike their food," said Dad. After dinner, I went to bed and I kept dreaming of gross salad. I sleep walked and fell down the stairs and started brushing my hair with a toothbrush. I finally woke up and found myself in a toilet. Toilet paper was on my head! I told my parents what happened and they laughed at me.
