Camilla Storm Thunder Tryouts

We decided to move Camilla to, "Colorado Storm" soccer since practices are closer to our house and she was going to be separated from her old, "REAL" team because of her age. We also had trouble getting good training for her on, "REAL".

We came across, "Storm Thunder", which is a competitive team that Camilla had to tryout for.

The Castle Rock U9 Thunder program is for the soccer player who would like a little more than the typical recreational soccer level experience. This program is a pathway to learn about and love soccer, to the extent that we seek players and families who'd like to do more to develop. This is a development program for players who love the game.

Program participation is a two-year opportunity beginning in the fall season of a player's U9 year. Teams will train 2 - 3 times each week for a minimum of one hour. The time on the field is greater and coaches are paid according to their license level and experience. Playing time is guaranteed for each player that participates.

I just got the phone call today that Camilla made the team. She is now on "Storm Thunder Premier" team and has declared that soccer is her favorite sport. I am so proud of her hard work and dedication!

Here is a video that I took of her when she was trying out for the team:

Estes Park Campground, July 1-5, 2022

Image
Estes Park was the perfect place to get away from fireworks. Our campground was perfect and was full of families so we got peace and quiet, even on the 4th of July. There was no fire ban so we spent a lot of time sitting around the fire and talking.  I truly believe that these trips bond our family closer together. I heard about Connors friends and how he absolutely loves high school.  He said, “I really like my life” which warmed my heart.  I heard about Carlys goals for swimming and how her friends are changing at school.  I heard about how Camilla wants to grow her hair long and she is looking forward to freedom in high school.  Lloyd and I shared stories of our high school years.  Our campsite had nice clean showers for us to use so we never got super dirty.  Our neighbor camper had a guitar and Connor talked to him a bit about guitars.   Lloyd, Connor, Camilla, and me all went on a 8 mile dirt loop trail called Bibl...

Desert Heat & Big Wins: Our Phoenix Adventure March 17-24, 2026

High in a towering saguaro near Mesa and Apache Junction, a small woodpecker peeked from its hollowed nest to survey the desert before swiftly vanishing back into the shadows. . Of course, I couldn't visit Mesa without hitting the trails. Before the swim meet humidity took over my day, I headed out to  Usery Mountain Regional Park  for a  4.5 mile run .  Coming from the higher elevations of Castle Rock, I thought I’d be ready for the challenge, but the Sonoran Desert is its own beast. The terrain at Usery is beautiful sweeping views of the Goldfield Mountains and trails lined with those architectural Saguaros, even though I was terrified of seeing a rattlesnake. We kicked off the trip with a visit to Saguaro Lake, spending the day at Butcher Jones Beach. Nestled in the desert, it truly felt like an oasis, surrounded by towering saguaro cacti and rugged canyon walls.  To cool down, we made a stop at Boba Shack near our hotel, which quickly became a favorite. Betw...

From Boise to the Podium: Records, Firsts, and Unforgettable Memories March 11-17 2026

What an incredible week in Boise! Between the intense competition, personal milestones, and some much-needed team bonding, it’s safe to say this trip will go down in the books as a massive success. I am so incredibly proud of Carly. She had an absolute standout meet, proving that all her hard work is paying off in a big way. Among her highlights: • Helping set a new team record in the 400 relay. • Securing a hard-earned time cut in the 200 free. • Helping the ROCK relay team bring the heat to earn 3rd place in the 800 relay, edging out 4th place by a nail-biting .07 seconds! Best of all, Carly is officially heading home with a medal! It wasn't just a big week for the swimmers; it was a huge milestone for me, too. I had my very first experience officiating at the elite level! Getting to work the deck alongside so many fantastic Colorado officials was an absolute honor and an experience I won't soon forget. We didn't spend the entire week smelling like chlorine. We managed...
