Colorado Rockies 5k Pregame Recognition
I received a letter from Colorado Rockies that they wanted to honor me for my 2nd place finish at a game on June 1st at Coors Field. The kids and I already had tickets for this game so I was able to get my Dad, brother, brother's girlfriend, and niece into the game for free. We didn't know what to expect and were surprised to find out that they allowed all 3 of my kids and my Dad into the backstage area and onto the field with me. They even gave us all a Rockies shirt and some refreshments. We went out onto the field and got to meet "Digger" and a Pro player.
I didn't realize how tall the baseball players were! The kids kept giving me lots of hugs and saying, "Thank you Mom". Then, they told me to line up with the other winners and they put a camera in my face and announced that I won 2nd place. The lady next to me told me that she does this race every year so she can win and get her family free tickets to a game. I told her that I think I will do the same thing. Little did I know that I would get huge stage fright? I kept a permanent smile on my face but my knees started shaking when they put me on the Jumbotron.
After the game, we followed everyone out to the seats and I kept telling everyone that I was never given my tickets. When I looked in my purse for my confirmation email, I found all of the tickets and felt like a complete dork. We met my brother, brother's girlfriend, Lloyd, and my niece and brought them down to closer seats.
We bought all of the kids a meal, which was only $5, which I thought was really inexpensive for a sports game. Kaia and Carly had a blast playing together and running around. Connor came and asked me what the rules were for baseball. My kids have had zero exposure to baseball and didn't even know how to play. Parenting fail! We had numerous foul balls come into our section and we warned the kids to pay attention so they don't get hit in the head. We bought all of the kids and ice cream cone and Connor said it was the best ice cream he ever had. Then, we moved up to the front row to see if we could catch a ball. Carly picked up a bag of peanuts that weren't ours and started eating them. They all got baseball cards and we explained to them that those cards could be worth a lot of money. On the way out, the kids all gave a high five to an employee. Such a fun night!
Here we all are on the Rockies screen:
