Camping on Elk Creek

When we arrived at the campsite, we let Lola out and a lady came running out. She said that there are moose in the area and I need to keep my dog close to me. Lloyd showed up with Connor, shortly after us. He was backing up the van and knocked over the sign that said our campsite #. I laughed so hard that I was rolling on the ground.

It took about 5 minutes for Carly to get hurt. She was running around and fell in the fire pit and scraped her legs. Thankfully, there was no fire in the fire pit. Shortly after, we found out that both Connor and Lloyd forgot their pillows. After we set up camp, Carly and I went for a bike ride down to Shadow Mountain Lake. We were amazed by how pretty it was!

When we arrived back from our bike ride, there was a moose standing right in front of our site.

The next day, Connor woke up super early so I took him on a mountain bike ride. We actually got a little lost riding the backcountry trails next to Grand Lake. Connor kept saying, "Mom, We aren't going to die!" When I got back to camp, I taught the girls how to play tetherball. They were very competitive!

The next day, Lloyd and Connor drove down to Winter Park to do downhill mountain biking. Connor thought it was so cool!

The girls and I headed down to Willow Creek Reservoir.

It was a very quiet body of water and we were able to picnic and ride in the raft.

Lola preferred to swim next to us while we rode on the raft.

When the boys got back, we went to Shadow Mountain lake to explore.

We saw lots of wildflowers, including lots of columbines.

Lola had her own little shade to relax under.

I ran 17 miles with Lola in Rocky Mountain National Park.

image

Everything was so green and full of trees.

image

Lola loved cooling off in the Colorado river.

I found a trail that ran right next to the Colorado River. One morning, I woke up to potty and let Lola out of the tent to sit with Connor. When I was walking to the bathroom, Lola started barking like crazy. A moose was in our campsite and charged at Lola. Lloyd was able to pull her and Connor into the tent.

I also did some short runs around Columbine Lake.

image

While I was running, Lloyd and the kids hiked along Shadow Mountain.

We went to a really pretty Waterfall called Adams Falls.

The last thing we did was get some ice cream in Grand Lake Village. Carly let everyone bury her in the sand.

It was some really great bonding time for the family.
