Camping at St. Vrain State Park π π₯ π² Outdoor divas triathlon π♀️ π΄ π♀️, August 21, 2021
Connor had a mountain bike race in Buffalo Creek in the morning of August 21. I suggested that maybe the girls and I just go camping. Connor didn’t like that idea and asked if he could still go camping after the race.
In order to make the timing work out, the girls and I left early so I could open water swim and get the campsite set up. Lloyd and Connor came in a separate car after Connor’s race.
We camped at St Vrain because it is only 3 miles from Union Reservoir in Longmont where my triathlon was. Union Reservoir is an area mainly used for swimming and they have a neat dog beach where dogs can swim without a leash. We liked our campsite because it had so much space. We were out in the open but it was a nice place to relax and be in nature. There are a lot of birds and pelicans at St Vrain. The kids got along pretty well and had fun playing with each other. They swung each other on the hammock and played a game where they threw pebbles at a target. There are many ponds at St. Vrain and they all have gravel trails around them to ride bikes or hike. Carly, Lola, and I all walked around pelican pond. We set up our tents and made a campfire. We sat around and talked and enjoyed each others company. However, we did have a very short storm that kicked up so much wind that our tents almost blew away. Most people were pretty successful in catching a lot of fish at St Vrain. We were so thankful that we were able to have a campfire since we couldn’t have one in Steamboat or Wyoming. The girls laughed at my stupidity when we all walked to the water to brush our teeth and I tried to brush my teeth with anti-itch cream. I had thought it was toothpaste. Lloyd and Lola came to watch me do my triathlon. Outdoor Divas is an all women’s triathlon that has been held at Union Reservoir since 2008. I felt really strong on the swim. My fear of open water is completely gone, for the time being. I enjoyed the 13 mile bike portion but I am still not as fast as I would like. My run was good and I finished feeling pretty good. I was surprised that the kids had the tent and sleeping bags all packed up when I finished my triathlon. We didn’t even ask them to do that!
