Eagle is west of Vail and East of Glenwood Springs.   The town has an extensive trail system for mountain biking, hiking and trail running.  It is about 10 degrees cooler in Eagle than Denver and only about 6,000 people live in the town.  On our way up, we saw snow.  We also hit some significant traffic, due to a rollover accident.  Thankfully, we did arrive by 4pm and Connor got to do his pre ride.

We stayed at a hotel that allowed dogs.  We brought Lola and she slept on the floor.  I went for a run around town while Connor did his pre ride.  I met one of his friends on the mountain bike team that he used to play basketball with.  I also met Annabelle and her father.  The team really tried to encourage the girls to be on the mountain bike team.  Carly is definitely committed to swimming but Camilla said she would think about it.

After Connor’s pre ride, we went back to the hotel to shower.  We discovered that Connor didn’t pack the clothes that we told him to and Carly forgot underwear.  There really wasn’t anywhere near to buy new clothes so Lloyd gave Connor some clothes and Carly went commando.  We ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant since we figured that would be the least upsetting to our stomachs.  Eagle had a ton of Mexican restaurants but it could mess up Connor’s stomach before a race.

We all went to bed early and slept pretty good until Carly’s alarm woke Lloyd and I up at 5am.  The kids slept through it but Lloyd and I had a hard time going back to sleep.  Lloyd took Connor to the event at 7am since all riders are required to stay all day.  The rest of us ate breakfast, packed up, and met back at the race at 11am.

Connor’s race didn’t start until 12:45pm and he wanted nothing to do with us so the girls and I took pictures of the Fall leaves until his race started.

We then saw him start and cheered for him.  We walked the course and took more pictures of him.  He finished one hour later and we congratulated him on qualifying for State Championships.  He still wanted nothing to do with us so the girls and I walked to downtown Eagle.  We played at the park and walked to some of the stores, which were really expensive.  The town is very small and peaceful, with pretty views.

We walked back to the race at about 4pm and Lloyd was just finishing up his volunteer shift.  We waited for awards to finish and started the drive home.  We stopped for dinner in Georgetown and got home at 9pm.
